How to get rid of Chipmunks?

Although chipmunks steal your heart away with their antics, they can be quite a pest. They can dig up your plants, make holes in the lawn, eat all your flowers and be a total menace in your garden. They are very destructive and awfully fast at breeding. The rate at which they breed cannot be ascertained and before you know they will have multiplied quickly. They can be such pests that they can make you quite desperate to get rid of them as soon as possible. While you are intent that they must be done away with, animal lovers cannot imagine why. So keep it your little secret.

Some of the methods of eliminating the chipmunks are lethal and there are many options to choose from:

Bucket traps are cheap to make and also simple. Fill up a bucket of 5 gallons with water of the level of 2/3 and then sprinkle sunflower seeds densely on the surface. Create a ramp with a wooden plank and make a trail of the seeds on this ramp. You can put a spot of butter on a small wooden piece and let it float on the surface. This will attract the chipmunks into the water and will kill them by drowning. Don’t leave these around infants or younger age kids.

You can create live traps like a professional and relocate these animals elsewhere. Buy these traps if your garden has chipmunks. Another method is using coyote urine which is a hopeless deal. The smell may drive them away but the bait may have been all eaten up in spite of being scared of the coyote. Similarly, rat traps are no good either.

Using cats and dogs to catch the chipmunks requires the pet to be an able hunter animal. Chipmunks are extremely agile and run around speedily. So it may be difficult for the cat or dog to catch them. In case you are lucky these can still catch them for you!
