How is the game of marbles played?

This game is played with small crystal balls called as marbles. In this game a player has to shoot out marbles of other contestants out of the playing ring while keeping his marble within the ring. As long as the shooter keeps shooting others marbles out he/she plays his turn or it’s the chance of the other player. The player who collects the maximum number of marbles by shooting it out of the ring is declared the winner. Consecutive games can be played to declare a champion.

Where is it played?
A game of marbles is ideally played on a sandy playground or the baseball fields backstop area. A stick or a string compass or a piece of chalk is used to draw a circle. This circle measures about ten feet in diameter. The area inside the circle is the official playing area of the marbles game. The area is then cleared of any large stones which could affect and hinder the game.

Once the area is cleared, each player contributes certain number of marbles as decided amongst them. These marbles are arranged in the shape of cross inside the circle. To decide who shoots first, once has to either shout “first” or a deciding game is played. Two lines are drawn at different ends. The player has to stand at one end and shoot a marble towards the other end line. The player whose marble lands closest to the end line plays first followed by the player closest to the first and so on.

Rules
The first shooter has to place his/her shooting marble at the outside perimeter of the circle. The basic rule of the game is to knock out other players’ shooter marbles without throwing your marble out of the circle. If a shooter fails to knock out a marble, his/her turn is over and second player follows. The knocked out marbles are collected by the shooter. At the end of the game the shooter with the maximum knocked out marbles wins the game.
